Houston foodies, rejoice: Houston Black Restaurant Week is BACK, in a much bigger way for 2017!
Houston Black Restaurant Week (Houston BRW) began last year as a way to support Black businesses and give exposure local eateries, while also giving diners the opportunity to give back to the city of Houston. This year, a portion of the proceeds from all meals will go towards The Blue Triangle (formerly the first branch of Houston's YMCA) to help renovate their community kitchen.
The 2017 Houston BRW commences this week and features over 20 local restaurants, each with distinctive flavors and catering to various budgets. Alley Kat Lounge, for example, has a menu for Happy Hour and Dinner. Ray's Real PIt BBQ Shack in Third Ward has a Dinner menu. Etta's Little Kitchen has you covered on Sunday with their amazing Brunch. Even vegetarians in the H can participate this year, with Sunshine's Health Food Store & Vegetarian Deli serving up a Lunch menu.
In addition to giving shine to Houston-based eateries, there are also three standalone events happening during Houston BRW:
- Tuesday, April 18: Aroma, a restaurant consulting event featuring a panel of restaurant industry executives and a three-course meal courtesy of Chef Rik Borner
- Thursday, April 20: Nosh Culinary Showcase, a showcase of non-franchised local restaurants and brands that features culinary bites and treats. Attendees are invited to sample and vote on their favorites over the course of the night.
- Saturday, April 22: Soundbites Food Truck Festival, which bills itself as Houston's first-ever Black-owned food truck festival featuring a diverse menu, a full bar, and live music (we heard HustleGrade feature DeLorean might make an appearance)
You can find a complete listing of all the restaurants participating in Houston Black Restaurant Week here, as well as their respective menus and whether they're serving breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, happy hour, or some combination of all of the above. Houston BRW 2017 extends now through April 30th.
